BF2 Master Server To Be Permenently Closed; Project Reality/ Forgotten Hope 2 Start Their Own BF2 Master Server

If you haven't been living under a rock for the last few months, you may have heard the news that GameSpy will beshutting down online services for Battlefield 2 at the end of this month.

Shortly afterwards, Electronic Arts announced via their Origin Twitter that they were working on transitioning Battlefield 2 so that it would still be playable after the shutdown. However, contrary to their original statement, they recently announced that they would not be doing this, and that Battlefield 2 online services would be shut down at the end of June.

Have no fear though! Ever since the original announcement from GameSpy, the Project Reality Team has been hard at work on developing our own solution to keep Project Reality: BF2 online, and our players playing. In partnership with theForgotten Hope 2 team, we have quickly developed our own custom master server, and I am happy to confirm thatProject Reality: BF2 (and Forgotten Hope 2) will continue to be playable online after the GameSpy shutdown.

The update that will provide this new functionality will be released in our upcoming v1.2 patch, scheduled to be released before the shutdown occurs. Not only does it replace the GameSpy online services with our own, it also includes the Dutch Forces, several new maps, as well as loads of tweaks and improvements.

For the regular players of PR:BF2, the only difference you will notice with the new online services is that upon updating to v1.2, your existing player profiles will be deleted, and you will be required to make a new online account if you wish to play online. The account management system in the PR:BF2 Launcher, the ingame server browser, and PRSPY will continue to function as normal.

As we're nearing our 10th year since Project Reality was founded, we look forward to seeing Project Reality: BF2 continue long into the future!

Enjoy,
The Project Reality Team
